continuing from here.

[ in spite of how things had gone earlier, the word from hill that they were still on the enemy's radar, and how the night had nearly ended just a few hours prior, the pick-up's gone off without a hitch. a medical team looks them over (no drastic injuries, just a few scratches and bruises) and there's a quick debriefing with hill before they're dismissed to clean up and recuperate before they land back in new york.

they head to the sleeping quarters - a little later than she'd promised, but any sleep is better than none - and fall into a fitful sleep in the same bed for a few hours (both are exhausted, but you can only sleep so well on a flying fortress no matter how tired you are). she awakes to hills voice over the comms - they'll be arriving within two hours.

she turns to clint, glancing over her shoulder (a bit awkward while his arm is still draped over her waist) and nudges his side lightly with her elbow. ]

Hey. [ her voice is kept soft, too, she doesn't want him to startle and knock her out of bed. ] Wake up.

[ it was probably obvious the entire time that clint was thankful everything went off without a hitch. they were tired, mentally and physically, and running on little to no sleep on operations was already hard enough without having to skip it entirely. he's glad to at least be on a one way trip back to new york instead of being prepped for another mission; maybe they could get some of that unfinished stuff sorted without work getting in the way.

not likely, he reminds himself as he lays down in the spot next to her and tries to get some sleep in. it's erratic at best, and though there's no time for proper nightmares the shimmer of tesseract blue and the thoughts and concerns of the last time they were in bed together are just as bad. he isn't even fully asleep he hears hill's voice, though his eyes remain fully shut until natasha says something. ]

five more minutes.

[ he says to her half muffled by the pillow in a groggy, low voice. he cant help the smile growing on his face, knowing full well they'd have to get up regardless of whether or not they wanted to. ]
