[ it wasn't him that startled her, not exactly - it's the dream that she wasn't expecting that's taking her longer than she'd like for her to come down from. it's been a long time since she's been caught off guard by her own subconscious like that and it always throws her off her game. off her game is something she can't afford to be right now, not when someone else is relying so heavily on her support.

the contact is brief, but comforting (even if he is doing it more for him than for her), and she closes her eyes and leans into to touch for as long as it lasts before going to retrieve another glass from the cabinet. alcohol isn't typically something she indulges in, either, at least not to excess, but right now she's looking for something that'll keep her from dreaming if she decides to try going back to sleep.

his glass is filled and wordlessly handed to him as she takes the seat next to him. ]
